Massachusetts offers free handicaps for high school golfers

Since we are a Massachusetts based organization, it is awesome to see news that your local state golf association is leading the way to help grow the game. Having a handicap at a young age is important for the development of junior golfers and think the Massachusetts Golf Association’s recent partnership with the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) is a natural fit. We hope other state golf associations and high school athletic associations see the value in this alignment and will follow suit.

Many high school students and parents ask questions about playing varsity golf in college. Playing a varsity college sport at any level is an amazing experience, especially if you are able to land one of the coveted college golf scholarships. Performing on the course while balancing a busy college lifestyle is not right for everyone. Below is an infographic which was originally published on Nextgengolf highlighting the differences between playing varsity golf and club golf in college. Hopefully this information provides some more clarity on a couple different options for playing college golf.

Ranking the Top 5 High School Golf Teams

Lone Peak Boys High School Golf Team Reading Time: 3 minutes

Starting in 2016, The National High School Golf Association started ranking the top high school golf teams in the United States. All of these rankings are based solely on the state high school golf tournaments from the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 seasons. All state tournament scores were calculated and ranked using the USGA Handicap formula to ensure a stable benchmark for golf course host sites. Calculation = ((Gross player score by day – rating) * 113/slope )). So who are the top 5 high school golf teams for the 2016-2017 season?
